Midnight Margarita: The Perfect Spooky Halloween Cocktail
I just love everything about Halloween! From decorating the house to watching scary movies, cooking fun themed food, and especially mixing up spooky cocktails for friends. I’ve been hosting Halloween parties for over 20 years, and each one brings a new twist. This year, I’m adding a brand-new drink to my spooky menu—the Midnight Margarita!
This cocktail is the embodiment of Halloween. Not only is it incredibly delicious, but its black, eerie appearance screams everything spooky. There’s no better drink to serve on the most haunting night of the year!
To create this Midnight Margarita, there’s one magical ingredient that brings both flavor and the iconic purple-black hue—homemade blackberry simple syrup. Don’t let the thought of making your own syrup scare you. It’s quick, easy, and totally worth it! Just boil equal parts water and sugar, add blackberries, simmer, and strain. That’s it!
So, without further ado, let’s get to the simple steps for crafting this hauntingly good Midnight Margarita!

How to Make Blackberry Simple Syrup
The deep, dark color of the Midnight Margarita comes from the blackberry simple syrup. It’s an essential part of this drink, and it’s as easy as 1-2-3!
- Combine sugar and water: Use equal parts of water and sugar, then bring them to a slight boil in a small saucepan.
- Add blackberries: Toss in a pint of cleaned blackberries and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, smashing the berries occasionally.
- Strain: Once the syrup is ready, strain it through a fine mesh sieve to remove the seeds and pulp. You’ll be left with a gorgeous, inky syrup that’s perfect for your Midnight Margarita.

Crafting the Midnight Margarita
Once your blackberry syrup is ready, mixing this spooky drink is a breeze. You’ll shake together silver tequila, Chambord, Blue Curaçao, fresh lime juice, and your blackberry syrup over ice. Here’s how to get the perfect result:
- Prepare the glass: For a little extra Halloween flair, rim your glass with black sanding sugar. Run a lime around the edge of the glass, then dip it into the sugar.
- Mix and shake: In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, Chambord, Blue Curaçao, lime juice, and blackberry syrup. Shake for about 15 seconds.
- Serve: Fill your prepared glass with ice, pour the shaken mixture over it, and garnish with a sprig of rosemary for a spooky, herbaceous touch.

Make a Batch for Your Halloween Bash!
Throwing a big Halloween party? You can easily make a large batch of Midnight Margaritas. Just multiply the ingredients by the number of servings you need.
Mix everything in a pitcher, leaving out the ice, and when you’re ready to serve, pour the cocktail into ice-filled glasses and garnish.
Your guests will love this eerie and delicious drink!

Conclusion
The Midnight Margarita is the perfect cocktail to serve on Halloween night, offering a fun mix of eerie presentation and bold flavors. Whether you’re watching “Practical Magic” with your best witches or hosting a big Halloween bash, this drink is sure to cast a spell on everyone.
